Call For Papers
The Steering and Organising Committees of the International Conference on Engaging Pedagogy welcome paper submissions for ICEP 2011. This year’s ICEP will take place at the National College of Ireland on 16th December, 2011. The theme of this year’s conference is The Changing and Evolving Roles of Educators.
Key dates:
Deadline for abstract submission: Tuesday, 1st November 2011.
Deadline for paper submission: Tuesday, 15th November 2011.
For this call, there are two streams which papers will be considered under:
Stream A: A full research-based paper based on the themes listed below. Papers submitted under this stream will be presented over a period of 20 minutes at the conference with a further 5 minutes for questions. See www.icep.ie for paper templates.
Stream B: A practice-based paper sharing good classroom practice. Submissions do not need to be theoretical or research-based, but should be experience-based with evidence or examples where suitable. Any of the themes/sub-themes below can be chosen, the first two (authentic assessments and learning outcomes) being quite suitable. Papers submitted under this stream will be presented over a 15 minute session at the conference with a further 5 minutes for questions. Papers for this stream should also follow the template at www.icep.ie, but can be shorter (around 2000 words).
Deadlines:
Abstracts are due by the end of Tuesday 1st November, 2011.
Final papers are due by the end of Tuesday 15th November, 2011 UTC.
Relevant sub themes include but are not limited to:
- Authentic assessments – What examples have we of these and proof that they work?
- Learning outcomes – How and where are the unintended outcomes assessed and developed?
- Responding to governmental policies – How do we reconcile policies with our own teaching philosophy?
- Strategies for diversity (e.g. bridging courses; streaming; diagnostic testing) – What form do these interventions take?
- What works and what doesn’t?
- International students’ objectives for studying in western countries – Is it quality of education or obtaining a western (and English-speaking) education?
- The value of technology – Are we adopting new technology just because it is new or because it makes a difference?
- Ethics in pedagogy – What role do ethics have in our chosen pedagogy?
- Student-centric pedagogy – Do we know what is best for students or do they?
Many of these sub-themes have emerged from the preliminary analysis of the armchair session groups held at ICEP10.
Graduate students are encouraged to submit papers.
